DGS Adds Five New Lawyers
DENVER – SEPTEMBER 11, 2014 – Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP has added five new associates across two of its core departments. Shira Cooks, Nathan Goergen, Erin Turban Miller, and Justin Nyberg have joined the Finance & Acquisitions Group and Anastasia "Stacie" Carter has joined the Natural Resources Group.
SHIRA COOKS Ms. Cooks is an associate in the Finance & Acquisitions Group. Prior to joining DGS, she served as a law clerk for Chief Judge Maria E. Berkenkotter in Colorado’s 20th Judicial District in Boulder, Colorado. Ms. Cooks received her J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School, where she was elected to the Order of the Coif and served as the managing editor for the Journal on Telecommunications and High Technology Law. During law school, she also worked as a legal intern for the Securities and Exchange Commission and as a judicial intern for Judge John L. Kane in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. Ms. Cooks received her B.A., graduating cum laude, from the University of Delaware and is admitted in Colorado.
NATHAN GOERGEN Mr. Goergen is an associate in the Finance & Acquisitions Group and his practice emphasis is on corporate and business law, including private equity, mergers and acquisitions, securities, and general corporate matters. He received his J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School, during which, he was elected to the Order of the Coif, served as an associate editor of the University of Colorado Law Review, and externed for now-Chief Justice Nancy Rice of Colorado Supreme Court. Mr. Goergen also interned for Judge Christie Phillips at the First Judicial District in Golden, Colorado. He received his B.A. in finance, graduating magna cum laude, from Valparaiso University. Mr. Goergen is not admitted in Colorado but his application for admission is pending.
ERIN TURBAN MILLER Ms. Miller is an associate in the Finance & Acquisitions Group and her practice focuses on a broad range of corporate and transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital, and corporate governance. Ms. Miller also regularly represents pro bono clients in housing and immigration matters.
Before joining DGS, Ms. Miller practiced in the Private Equity Group at Ropes & Gray LLP in Boston. She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and her application for admission in Colorado is pending.
Ms. Miller received her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, where she was the Grants Editor of the Berkeley Business Law Journal and worked as a volunteer advocate in the California Asylum Representation Clinic. She received her A.B. in History, graduating magna cum laude, from Bowdoin College, where she was a co-captain and a member of the Women’s Varsity Swimming Team.
JUSTIN NYBERG Mr. Nyberg is an associate in the Finance & Acquisitions Group and his practice focuses on acquisition transactions, public and private placements of debt and equity securities, securities law disclosure and compliance, corporate governance, and entity formation. He received his J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law, where he graduated in the top two percent of his class and was elected to the Order of the Coif honorary society. During law school, Mr. Nyberg was an Editor in Chief of the Natural Resources Journal and externed with Justice Charles Daniels of the New Mexico Supreme Court, as well as the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Regional Office of the Solicitor in New Mexico. Mr. Nyberg was the recipient of the 2013 Salazar Prize (awarded to the top-ranked student at the end of the second year), a Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation Scholarship, and two Oliver Seth Scholarships (awarded for excellence in legal ethics), among other awards.
He received his B.A. in English Literature from Princeton University, and served as alumni class president from 2001-2005. Prior to joining DGS, Mr. Nyberg was an editor at Outside, the nation’s leading outdoor lifestyle magazine, where he developed strong ties to companies in the outdoor recreation and ski industries. He is also a founder and executive editor of GearInstitute.com. Mr. Nyberg is not admitted in Colorado but his application for admission is pending.
ANASTASIA "STACIE" CARTER Ms. Carter is an associate in the Energy Group. She received her J.D., graduating magna cum laude, from Texas Tech University School of Law and B.S. in Chemistry with minors in the Russian and French languages from Baylor University. In law school, Ms. Carter served as the Editor-in-Chief of Volume 46 of the Texas Tech Law Review and received the J. Hadley Edgar award for trial excellence. She is not admitted in Colorado but her application for admission is pending.
