Shannon Stevenson Recognized with 2013 Davis Award

January 13, 2014

DENVER – JANUARY 14, 2014 – Shannon Stevenson was honored last night with the 2013 Richard Marden Davis Award at a dinner in her honor. The award recognizes her outstanding service to the legal community, along with her civic and charitable leadership.

“It is a privilege to be included among such a highly regarded class of past winners,” said Ms. Stevenson. “Dick Davis has made such a lasting impression on the legal community in Denver and I’m so humbled to be recognized with an award that bears his name.”

The Davis Award is presented annually “to a Denver lawyer who is 40 years old or younger and combines excellence as a lawyer with civic, cultural, educational, and charitable leadership.” The award was created in memory of Richard Marden Davis, one of the founders of Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP, who devoted himself tirelessly to the profession and the community. Each honoree “best exemplifies the character and promise of Richard Davis at that stage in his career.”

Ms. Stevenson is a Partner in the Trial Department of DGS, where she leads the Appellate Group, along with Andy Low, and serves on the firm’s Executive Committee. Ms. Stevenson has briefed and argued cases before the Colorado Supreme Court, the Colorado Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. She also has litigated and tried cases for clients in the energy, natural resources, and construction sectors.

Ms. Stevenson is the current President of the Colorado Women’s Bar Association, where she has focused on the issue of women in leadership in the legal profession. She has served as the President-Elect of the CWBA, and has chaired both the Judicial and Public Policy Committees. Ms. Stevenson also has been active in pro bono representation of clients in the state and federal courts of appeals. She has briefed and argued numerous appeals over the past seven years on behalf of indigent prisoners to the Tenth Circuit as part of the circuit’s Criminal Justice Act Panel. She also has served on the Screening Committee for the Colorado Bar Association’s Appellate Pro Bono Panel. She has represented children in several cases through the Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center. At DGS, Ms. Stevenson has served on the firm’s Partnership Selection Committee for the past three years.

“The Davis Award has continued over the years to be a great tradition of honoring excellence in the Denver legal community,” said Chris Richardson, Managing Partner at DGS. “We are honored to have Shannon as a partner here. Her excellence as a lawyer, her leadership, and her accomplishments have been an inspiration to many at the firm and the Denver legal community at large.”
