Miko Brown Selected as One of Corporate Counsel's National Women in Law Awards Honorees

October 4, 2018

Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP partner Miko Brown was selected as one of Corporate Counsel's National Women in Law Awards Honorees in the Innovative Leadership Category. This category highlights women lawyers who are thinkers and seen as impacting change and developing new strategies for better solutions.

Generally, the awards honor general counsel, in-house leaders, and law firm partners who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the empowerment of women in law. These women stand out because they are business strategists, complex problem-solvers, and of course, great lawyers. Honorees were recognized last night at an awards dinner as part of the Women, Influence & Power in Law Conference in Washington, D.C.

"Miko is an exceptional lawyer and an extraordinary champion for women in the legal profession,” said Kristin Lentz, co-managing partner of DGS. “In addition to excelling in her law practice, she is a role model and inspiration to many in the Denver legal community and here at DGS.”

Ms. Brown focuses her national litigation practice on defending large companies in catastrophic personal injury and commercial cases. Her experience includes products liability, medical malpractice, civil rights, premises liability, and construction matters. In commercial litigation, she has defended numerous actions alleging misrepresentation and violation of consumer protection laws and has successfully defended breach of contract and intellectual property infringement cases. Additionally, Ms. Brown’s employment experience includes matters alleging race, gender, disability, and age discrimination, as well as sexual harassment and whistleblower actions.

Ms. Brown launched the Women in Leadership Lecture Series (WILLS) in 2013. For each event, Ms. Brown and the planning committee invite clients and business colleagues to serve as panelists and share their experiences with a diverse audience of lawyers, business leaders, and law students. The series breaks down institutional silos and empowers women to start asking for what they want and deserve. Ms. Brown and WILLS have helped countless female and minority attorneys navigate soft barriers and begin a constructive dialogue about reformation, taking risks, and not leading from a place of fear. Ms. Brown helps women and minority lawyers connect through WILLS to viable business prospects, grow their professional networks, develop mentor/mentee relationships, and build their client rosters. “Through WILLS, Miko has created a sustainable community of women lawyers (and allies) coming together for the specific purpose of encouraging, supporting, empowering and inspiring each other,” said Jennifer Jaskolka, assistant general counsel of Xcel Energy. “Every attendee walks away from a WILLS program with a new-found sense of power, purpose and value, allowing each of us to craft and advocate for our own definition of success in the law.”
